How to level cabinet doors and fix gaps using adjustable hinges

After assembling your cabinet, you may find that the doors do not look quite the way you want them to. Using the adjustable hinges to get the finished look you want is a simple process if you know which screws to turn. Here you will find a step-by-step guide to get those doors looking straight and neat.

Important: Make sure your furniture is level on the floor before beginning. This is an important step. Many floors are not even (such as tile floors or old hardwood floors), and this may affect how your doors look. This is because the cabinet may "twist" slightly over time, and as a result the doors will appear crooked. To fix this, turn the leveling feet under the legs of your furniture to ensure your cabinet is properly supported on the floor. You can check to see if your furniture is straight by placing a level on top of the furniture.

To close gaps between doors: Turn the screw indicated here using a screwdriver. Be sure to adjust the same screw on both the top hinge and the bottom to keep the movement of the door even. DO NOT REMOVE THIS SCREW. Simply turn to move the door left or right (away from the cabinet wall or closer to the cabinet wall). Once the door is in the desired location, no further action is necessary. Use this screw also if the door appears to be crooked. To fix a door that has a slight tilt, adjust the top hinge differently than the bottom hinge to correct the tilt.

To move the door forward or backward: Turn the screw indicated below using a screwdriver. Be sure to adjust the same screw on both the top hinge and the bottom to keep the movement of the door even. DO NOT REMOVE THIS SCREW. Simply loosen enough to be able to slide the door forward or backward as needed. Once the door is in the desired position, tighten this screw again.

To move the door up or down: Loosen both screws indicated below. You may need to completely remove the two adjacent locking screws to allow the door to move up or down as needed. Once the door is in the desired location, fully tighten the two screws indicated below, and then reinstall the two adjacent locking screws to keep the hinge in place.
