How High to Hang a Pendant Over a Kitchen Island: The Ultimate Guide

Standard Ceiling Heights (8 feet): For standard 8-foot ceilings, aim for a height of 30 inches above the countertop. This provides ample light for tasks without obstructing views across the island or the kitchen.

Higher Ceilings (9 feet and above): If your ceilings are higher, consider adding 3 inches for every additional foot of ceiling height. For example, if you have a 10-foot ceiling, you could hang your pendants around 33 inches above the countertop.

Style of Pendant Lights: If your pendants are especially large or have intricate designs, consider hanging them a bit higher to allow for a more balanced look. Conversely, if they are small or dainty, you might opt for a lower height to make them more prominent.
